How We Awaken

Prior to birth we arrange various soul contracts to facilitate awakening. These may show up as foundational family experiences, “chance encounters”, finding someone with whom we are deeply connected or anything imaginable. From the human perspective, we may not consciously recognize them; however, the patterns begin to show themselves clearly as we age.

Celebrate those who have played a role in your spiritual evolution. From challenges to celebration, we are always on the path of transformation. Rather than regret past perceived mistakes, honor that something powerful may have come from them. When you say the wrong thing or your actions miss the mark, spirit may be working through you to trigger another into healing in their own experience. Be gentle with yourself and others – we are all fumbling our way towards ecstasy.

As we awaken, we tend to bring higher awareness to daily interplay. Without adding drama or creating conflict, we purposely focus on our state of consciousness in the present moment and choose to be a loving reflection for those with whom we interact. This is how we awaken. We help one another, love one another and spark the light of playfulness in our soul mates.

Self-Discovery

Sometimes we have to be who we aren’t in order to discover who we are.

Everyone faces their own dark night of the soul as part of the quest to awaken. These moments can create feelings of loss and confusion; however, they are a necessary aspect of transformation. The ego will often play a script that says, “If only this person knew [what I’ve seen, been through, done], they’d see me differently.” And thus, we see ourselves as separate from one another because of our perceived deficiencies.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Our very human struggles are what allow us to rise above, cultivate compassion and drop judgment. The more we work with our hidden wounds, the more we discover the love and Oneness that bind us together.
Be gentle with yourself. When someone appreciates beauty or courage or tenacity within you, know that it is a loving reminder of things you may have forgotten. You are a work in progress, a master in the process of awakening. And no matter how much you’ve learned so far, know this – you are just getting started. The resilience of your soul is ready to shine.

Awareness, Presence, Transformation

“Whenever you’re stuck in distress, penetrate your confusion with this question: What is my most believed thought right now?”

~Ezra Bayda~

When we operate from the premise that all things work toward our highest good, we come to discover that inconsolable sadness or frustration is a waste of energy. The mind creates stories which seem to enslave us, and though it takes conscious effort, shifting your thoughts will always shift your perception, and thus, your experience.

The ego loves to feel special. But this life experience is not meant to be one of sadness, frustration or loss; rather, you are meant to break free from self-imposed prisons and find your joy.

Seek to cultivate greater awareness of your own strength and abilities. Its helpful to utilize the energy of gratitude by saying “I am grateful for this situation. Even though I may not yet understand the lesson or be aware of gift, I know one awaits me.”  Your willingness to be open is transformative.

When you choose to bring the best version of yourself to the present moment, the future will take care of itself. These simple, empowering moments of presence and intention will transform your experience in surprising ways.

Eternity

“We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.”
~Paulo Coelho~

You are a spark of the Divine… infinite, eternal, beautiful.

With our limited human perception, it’s difficult to process the idea of eternity. Time is a construct of the mind and often it drives us to hurry through the present moment in order to get somewhere else; however, the present moment is all there is. And it is the eternal Now.
We are all participating in an exploration of separateness. The lifetimes we spend on this planet, the roles we play and the lessons we learn from one another are only the beginning of the incredible journey we share.
There is enough time. Everyone on the planet will eventually evolve through experiencing all the earth-based soul ages: Infant, Baby, Young, Mature and Old to finally discover the nature of love. Tending to your own state of consciousness will ultimately aid in the awakening of all humanity. Have compassion for yourself and for one another.

Create Space For Something New

“Change can be scary, but you know what’s scarier? Allowing fear to stop you from growing, evolving, and progressing.”
~Mandy Hale~
What happens when you venture into the unknown? You discover aspects of yourself that have long laid dormant, that seek expression. Your soul begins to shine with an inner light. Fear brings your attention to the present moment while courageousness allows you to move forward anyway.
When we work without a road map, we allow room for the Universe to surprise us. The ego’s desire to plan and prepare prior to taking risks only blocks us from the miracles that will inevitably be drawn into our experience. When plans fall apart, when people leave your life, when you’re left standing alone in the midst of upheaval… it means that room is being prepared for something amazing to happen. Resist nothing.
Choose to see everything merely as an opportunity to expand who you are. Never fear failure for it also has great beauty to share, and indeed, failure leads us to levels of potential that can never be discovered when things are flowing effortlessly. Trust the processes of life. You are safe, loved and supported each and every step of the way.

Consciousness

“Every act that you do unconsciously, you could also do consciously, and that makes a world of a difference.”

~Sadhguru~

To me, awakening has a very simplistic nature. We often call it a journey or a process; however, it is something that naturally happens to all of us. Consider that you awaken each day, (perhaps from a night filled with dreams or time spent quietly recharging) either gently drifting upward back into consciousness or abruptly from sounds around you. Both ultimately lead to waking.

Now, the mind will often tell you that you’re far away from being a conscious, enlightened being. It will continually lead you to the next thing to try… the next teaching or book or mediation. And they’ll work for a while, until the mind pulls you back into the dream by planting the idea that something is still missing.

I tell you this. You have all that you need. This moment can be approached with consciousness. You can be non-reactive. You can choose to be kind to yourself and others. You can appreciate the scents and sights around you and absolutely thrive in this human experiment. Consider it. Just be here now and you will see.

Journey to Yourself

“…every path toward self-discovery is a valid one.”
~Efrat Cybulkiewicz~

No matter what path you choose, challenges you face, or friends you discover along the way… all eventually lead you on an amazing journey of discovery. Perceived wrong turns or mistakes can be transformed into adventures. Blockages unlock ingenuity and inner strength. The resilience of your soul is ready to shine.

Rather than getting lost in the stories of old wounds or limited programming, use them as the impetus for change. Consider that your soul set itself upon this journey and that it plays a vital purpose in your development. When you begin utilizing tools at your disposal, you’ll discover the perfection that resides within the foundational energy of your life.

Each piece of wisdom we uncover becomes a stepping-stone to the next, and the next. The journey of awakening is unique and beautiful. Find your passions, walk forward with courage and integrity and see what you discover. The tendency of an old soul is to explore all sorts of belief systems, teachers, experiences and ideas, gathering nuggets of inspiration along the way. Be led by joy. The journey of self discovery is more beautiful than you can possibly imagine.

The Beauty of Silence

“Learn to be silent. Let your quiet mind listen and absorb.”

~Pythagoras~

We do not need to add more knowledge or new beliefs. It’s far more powerful to learn to rise above the antics of the mind into a place where we can commune with the Divine. We need to experience more wonder and more awe at the beauty that surrounds us. The minds’ noise can sometimes become a wall that closes us off from the miracle of the present moment.

There is a great depth of spaciousness which resides within you. Step into the silence and see if you can sense the infinite wellspring of potential that is waiting to be discovered.

Learn to be loving in your silence, otherwise your silence will become filled with closed-off energy that is helpful to no one. Love is only possible when you are fearless and exists in the absence of judgment. Simply breathe in the truth of your light, feel a smile of gratitude and observe. Bring healing and grace into your life situation by falling madly in love with life itself.

Explore the Unknown

“Until you step into the unknown, you don’t know what you’re made of.”
~Roy T. Bennett~

There’s something beautiful about consciously walking into unfamiliar circumstances because it prompts one to become more present. In this infinite Universe, there are always new experiences to explore. Don’t allow yourself to become stagnant or too “certain” during the pilgrimage. We are in the midst of a great mystery and the ideas and beliefs that we cling to most are often the ones that require attention. It’s powerful to transform your way of looking at the world.

All the experiences, mistakes and adventures from this and previous lifetimes have built a reservoir from which you can draw wisdom. Challenges create unique opportunities to explore love and tap into your strength.

As an awakening spirit, you are being guided to weave something beautiful within the experiences of your life. Cast off that which is no longer needed and begin a new cycle with the gifts you have discovered. It’s time to test them in the world of form.

When you choose to release old emotional or behavioral patterns, it clears the way for new emotions and higher knowledge that will create peace in your experience.

The Measure of Happiness

“I have had more than half a century of such happiness. A great deal of worry and sorrow, too, but never a worry or a sorrow that was not offset by a purple iris, a lark, a bluebird, or a dewy morning glory.”

~Mary McLeod Bethune~

There are many ways to navigate through life and each journey is unique. Our varied experiences lead us through expanding levels of consciousness and this long, amazing journey weaves through everything that this world has to offer. The point of our sojourn on earth is to facilitate spiritual wisdom that is obtained through the illusion of separation. Throughout our many lifetimes we explore the highs and lows of human experience.

Those who are ready to choose peace often find joy in the simple things while cultivating their innate ability to step into the power of the present moment. If there is any dis-ease in your experience, observe your level of judgment, attachment or the need to fight against what is. In this moment, you can handle what is in front of you. In this moment you can dive deeper in anything that brings you joy.

Enlightenment occurs when we can recognize the contrasting polarities of all experience as sacred. Having compassion and empathy for those still caught in the illusion, we embrace the whole without judgment. This creates space in which transformation can occur.
