Facing The Shadow

“When we are aware of our weaknesses or negative tendencies, we open the opportunity to work on them.”
~Allan Lokos~

We have been conditioned to fear the shadow side of life and of ourselves. It’s important to turn and face it; thus transforming it into a powerful aspect of spiritual awakening.

As multifaceted beings, we hold every possibility within us. What we deny within ourselves quietly runs various aspects of our lives, often sabotaging efforts regarding work, abundance, relationships and self-love.

What you react strongly to in another is a reflection of something you do not wish to see or own in yourself. Pay attention – this is the beauty of understanding how we help one another on the journey. It is within these unexamined, darker aspects that our true power lies.

The way to transform our shadows is to shine the light of awareness upon them. From a space of love, choose to stop projecting it onto others (notice words of complaint or blame), release attachment and self-judgement and be gentle with yourself. Healing comes through wholeness and acceptance. We don’t conquer the shadow, we transcend it by approaching life from a higher level of consciousness.

The Power of Change

“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”
~Joseph Campbell~

If you want to change something, you must first love it with all your heart. Whether you wish to break free of a restrictive habit or embrace freedom through intense personal change, seek to harness the power of acceptance and surrender as integral aspects of your transformation.

When a particular aspect has been in play in your life, it’s helpful to honor it as a teacher and as an awakener. Rather than hating the cause of your discomfort, find a way to bring it into the light. Your compassion releases energetic patterns that are no longer required as part of your spiritual work. And thus, the change you create is powerful, immediate and complete.

Resistance or hatred can lock energy in place and allow it to poison your experience. Conversely, conscious love is transformative. When you can speak of your past without intense emotion, it is an indicator that you have faced and overcome your shadows. Rather than something to avoid or keep hidden, the history of your journey becomes a foundation of wisdom and insight.

Suppression

When challenges arise, the natural human response is fight or flight. Both greatly impact the body’s immune system, nervous system and state of mental/emotional balance. The ego clings to the idea that something is wrong and that script can replay for years. These highly charged energies can damage the auric field and, left untended, wreck havoc with physical health and well-being.

The suppression of memories, anger, fear or sadness can be triggered by innocuous things later in life. A chance encounter, memory or dream can bring the unhealed aspects to the surface, and often open the old wounds. While overwhelming, these moments arise because your spirit is ready to bring light to the darkness.

Turn toward your shadows and lovingly bring them into the light of consciousness. Your willingness to be present with the process of healing amplifies your ability to transform distress into empowerment. You are absolutely ready to handle what rises to the surface. Keep in mind that the ego will be resistant, seeking to keep you locked into old patterns. This resistance is a true indicator that powerful energies of change are swirling around you.

Place your focus inward, be consistent, gentle, and honest with yourself. Take ownership of your state of consciousness and reclaim your power. Imagine the freedom that awaits when the past is released and you can write a new story.

Facing Your Shadows

“Call to mind the deepest, darkest most negative truth about yourself – and know that this “truth” is a lie.

~Ezra Bayda~

Consider the many uses of adversity; our challenges often force us to turn inward and face our shadows. When you understand that many problems are self-imposed, you can, with loving intention, transform fear into empowerment. Should you experience inner resistance, see it as an indicator that you are on the right track. The ego-mind will often attempt to divert energy through blame, judgment and anger. Observe the tendency to get lost in discussion or drama rather than taking ownership.

The ego amplifies limiting stories created by the shadow-mind. Perceived problems provide an opportunity to explore new facets of your unique potential. In the midst of depression, anger, fear, doubt or anxiety, revisit old wounds or patterns that are ready to be cleared. You may feel prompted to begin soul-searching, only to discover new teachers, ideas and tools to utilize in your quest for wholeness. Sometimes you may have to traverse the dark corners of your psyche. Do not reject your shadows. Instead, choose to see them as teachers and you will emerge transformed by the light of consciousness.

Befriend the Shadows

“It is here, in this least likely place, that we will find the key to unlock our strength, our happiness, and our ability to live out our dreams.”
~Debbie Ford~
We have been conditioned to fear the shadow side of life and of ourselves. It’s important to turn and face it; thus transforming it into a powerful aspect of spiritual awakening.

As multifaceted beings, we hold every possibility within us. What we deny within ourselves quietly runs various aspects of our lives, often sabotaging efforts regarding work, abundance, relationships and self-love.

What you react strongly to in another is a reflection of something you do not wish to face in yourself. Pay attention – this is the beauty of understanding how we help one another on the journey. It is within these unexamined, darker aspects that our true power lies.

From a space of love, choose to stop projecting it onto others (notice words of blame), release attachment and self-judgement, and be gentle with yourself. Healing comes through wholeness and acceptance. Sometimes you may have to traverse the dark corners of your psyche – do not reject these shadows, for they too have something to teach, and you will emerge transformed by the light of consciousness.

Courage

“Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.”

~Rumi~

Enlightenment is taking responsibility for your own state of consciousness in the present moment. Cultivate the courage to see yourself clearly. Blame and judgment send attention and energy outward rather than inward where true healing is possible. The shadows that we carry silently control our lives. They cause us to react, create drama or sabotage our joy and because of this, most people tend to deny the shadow side of their nature rather than take responsibility for it.

In order to transform shadows into empowered aspects of growth, we must turn and face them. They, like everything in the human experience, have lessons to teach and gifts to offer. Integration of our dualistic nature allows us to shine a light in the darkness, and through love, heal whatever is found there.
Higher consciousness allows us to see the world differently. It awakens a deeper understanding of the Self and inspires feelings of safety, compassion, integrity, confidence and courage. The impact on your life will be felt when you open your heart and step into your fullest potential. This moment is your point of power.

To Love…

“See and live life for the wonderful gift that it is …acknowledging everyone’s beauty, flaws, frailty, strength, gifts and possibilities. Honor and cherish it and above all be loving and compassionate. Here is the birthplace of inner and worldly peace.”

~Rasheed Ogunlaru~

To live in the frequency of love is to honor all that you see as sacred. As you expand in consciousness, it becomes easier to see through the mechanisms of the ego and the roles that people play. Old souls often view the world differently and must learn to walk in their truth, even in the face of ridicule.

The Tao te Ching says that the laughter of the unawakened is a necessary aspect of our collective experience. Rather than trying to change their minds, seek to find a way to love the soul that teaches through adversity. From them we learn self control, confidence, non-reactivity and patience.

We all walk the same path. Though we may be at differing levels of consciousness, love is the goal. Find your way by recognizing and honoring the potential within you, and there will come a time when the light of love shines so brightly that all shadows will be dispelled.

Facing Our Shadows

When presented with our darkest moments, we have the opportunity to rise above. Your soul is ready to face whatever life offers. Challenging situations come into our experience when we have the spiritual tools and ability to handle them.
The true blockages we face are limiting beliefs about our own worthiness, strength, ingenuity and vision. Facing our shadows allows us to leave old baggage behind, take conscious action and break through to new levels of enlightenment.
Perhaps you have postponed changing because you were afraid to try something new. The Universe often has creative ways of propelling us into growth – life sometimes takes a turn into the unknown and we must either face it or remain stagnant. Fortunately, the soul desires to evolve. Faced with no other option, we walk forward.
These are the moments of transformation. Trust the processes of awakening and know that you have the fortitude to conquer your fear… not only facing it and conquering it, but shattering the old beliefs and patterns that created it in the first place. Then, the world opens and new experiences await. The gateways of knowledge and wisdom are open for those who are willing to step through.

Facing Our Shadows

“You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing, and dance, and write poems, and suffer, and understand, for all that is life.”
~Jiddu Krishnamurti~

All growth, personal or collective, happens only when we have the courage to turn and face our shadows. As a distraction, the ego-mind will begin to divert energy through blame, judgment and anger. Observe the tendency to get lost in discussion rather than ownership.

Everything works toward the highest good of all involved. Even events that are horrific, displaying mans inhumanity to man, can be transformed into opportunities to give and receive love. The way to heal our collective wounds is to first turn our focus inward and take ownership of what we personally add to our collective experience. As each of us eradicates our own shadows, we become a source of light in the world.

Step into the power of love. Healing comes from the level of spirit and ultimately informs our physical experience. What harms one harms all; what heals one, heals all. When your heart hurts, find a way to give of your time and energy. Let each of us hold space for one another.

Change

“No one can tell what goes on in between the person you were and the person you become. No one can chart that blue and lonely section of hell. There are no maps of the change. You just come out the other side.
Or you don’t.”
~Stephen King~
Challenges awaken the desire for change. In the midst of disruption unhealed wounds or repressed energies rise to the surface. They get in our face until we cannot ignore the need to take action. Throughout this process one might experience a dissolution of the ego. Fear arises as the ego perceives its total annihilation. Our role, as awakening souls, is to have the fortitude to turn inward to face our shadows. Only then can we emerge transformed, as a butterfly from the chrysalis.
Each person’s journey is unique. The changes are typically so profound that we can barely remember the person we were. The old fears and intensities fade into the past and become part of our story of awakening.
We all share in this process of transformation, collectively as well as personally. Have compassion for those who are caught in the realm of resistance or reactivity. Be patient with yourself when you miss the mark.
The journey ultimately leads to love and oneness. Do your best, act with integrity and accept what is. The way will make itself known.
