As spiritual seekers, we often hope the people in our lives will recognize the changes taking place within us. We want them to see that we are responding differently, choosing with greater awareness, and walking in a direction that feels more aligned with who we are becoming.
Yet people may continue to expect the version of us they have known. They watch for the old reaction, brace for the familiar pattern, or interpret our present choices through the memory of the past. Their caution may come from experience, and trust sometimes needs time to catch up with transformation.
The same grace we desire must also be offered.
Others are evolving too. A person who once disappointed us may be learning to love more openly. Someone who reacted from fear may now be discovering courage. The person we think we know may already be moving beyond the role we assigned them, while we continue waiting for the old behavior to return.
We all participate in one another’s awakening. Sometimes we do so with intention and wisdom. Sometimes through what might lovingly be called foot-in-mouth disease. Sometimes we are simply being ourselves and are interpreted through another person’s wounds, expectations, or unfinished stories.
Each encounter reveals something. We may inspire, challenge, irritate, comfort, misunderstand, or awaken one another. Even the moments that feel awkward or imperfect can become part of another soul’s unfolding.
Discernment still matters. Change is revealed through consistent choices rather than promises alone. Yet discernment meets the person who is present today, while expectation searches for yesterday’s evidence.

May we release the versions of others they have already outgrown.
May we meet one another in the present moment with clear eyes, open hearts, and room to grow.
