Creating Food With Intention

On occasion, I get feeling a bit magical and domestic. The energies of the earth let me know they seek expression through me, and so when I prepare food, I infuse kitchen witchery and joy into what I create. The way forward is simplicity itself.

First, I consider the nature of each ingredient and add my intention as I work. Sometimes that intention rides on how I harvest, chop, or stir; sometimes I speak it aloud. Garlic isn’t just garlic if I’m calling in protection. Basil isn’t just basil if I’m inviting sweetness and abundance. The final touch is always the same: I bring everything together with Presence, letting the meal become more than the sum of its parts.

This can be done with anything you make.

Open your larder, notice what calls out, and explore the spiritual meanings of what you find. That’s how intention begins—quietly, through recognition. You may realize you’re drawn to the exact energies your soul needs right now. A craving for cauliflower might be your spirit asking for clarity or a fresh start. The desire for tomatoes and basil can be a reach toward love, vitality, and the feeling of home.

I won’t hand you a rigid recipe, because kitchen witchery isn’t about rules; it’s about relationship. But I will offer a doorway. There’s a cashew cheese in The Conscious Cook by Tal Ronnen that I adore—cashews for gentle prosperity, chives and parsley for cleansing and luck, shallot for soft emotional release. From there, I often wander into a cauliflower-crust pizza with cashew cheese, pesto, tomato, pine nuts, olive oil, and garlic. It tastes like comfort and feels like a spell: clear what’s heavy, invite what’s kind.

Blessing:

May your meals carry light,

your home hold peace,

and your spirit be well fed.
