There are seasons when something that once lit us up begins to feel strangely far away. A project we could not wait to return to sits untouched. A spiritual practice that once opened something deep becomes quiet. We come back expecting the old feeling to rise and instead find ourselves staring at the familiar shape of it, wondering where the warmth went.
The mind is quick to make a story out of that. Maybe the passion is gone. Maybe we have outgrown it. Maybe the thing mattered less than we believed it did when we were caught up in the joy of beginning.
But I have come to think we may be engaged in a different type of lesson.
Sometimes the spark goes quiet because we are being asked to meet the thing from a new level of consciousness.
Beginnings have their own kind of magic. There is momentum in discovery, in stepping into a room we have never seen before, in hearing the first whisper of a story or feeling the first opening of a new path. Later, the relationship changes. The light softens. We are no longer being carried by novelty, and something deeper asks us to come closer.
This is where devotion begins to look different from inspiration.
We return because something in us still remembers the doorway. We sit with what feels flat, listen beneath the silence, and begin to notice small movements we might have missed before. A sentence catches your imagination or a painting becomes a threshold for creativity. A memory rises from deep within, and suddenly there is a little openness that calls us.
It’s possible that the spark hasn’t left, that maybe it simply moved deeper, waiting for us to follow.
And the better question is not whether we still feel excited, but whether something inside us still turns toward the work when we hear its name. Sometimes that turning is enough to find the path again.
✨Blessing✨
May you trust the quiet places where something deeper is taking shape.
May you return gently to what still calls your name.
May the spark meet you again in a form you are ready to recognize.
