Last night, in the trees near our home, I heard two owls calling to one another through the darkness. I couldn’t see them, yet their voices were so clear in the night that it seemed as though the whole neighborhood had grown still enough to listen.
One would call, and after a moment the other would answer, their voices carrying back and forth through the branches in a rhythm that felt ancient, intimate, and strangely beautiful. I learned that owl pairs often call this way during courtship and as a way of maintaining their bond, each voice reaching through the dark until the other responds.
There was something about that exchange that stayed with me.
So much of life asks us to trust what we cannot yet see. We speak our truth, offer love where we can, send a prayer into the silence, or follow the quiet pull of something we don’t fully understand. Then we listen, because relationship is created in the space between the call and the response.
Sometimes the answer comes from a place we expected. Sometimes it arrives from somewhere hidden among the trees.
That is part of the mystery in which we live: we are always calling and listening, reaching and receiving, learning which voices carry resonance for us, and which ones belong to another path. When there’s recognition, something begins to harmonize, and what first seemed like two separate voices becomes a shared song moving through the darkness.
Last night, I couldn’t see the owls at all, yet I knew they were there. There are many things in life we come to know in the same manner… trust becomes lived experience.
✨Blessing✨
May you trust the call that rises from within you.
May you listen for the voices that answer in resonance.
And may you recognize the sacred moment when two songs become one.
