The Potential Within

Meet The Shape of This Moment

Yesterday I walked in the rain many times—with the puppies, with my sweetie, and alone. It was warm and gentle, settling over the earth with that unmistakable scent of wet soil and leaves, gathering along the edges of the road and beading on every blade of grass. Beneath the low gray sky, the whole world seemed quieter. There was something about it that felt like being held in the arms of Great Mother, wrapped for a while in one of her oldest forms of tenderness.

The fluidity of water has always been a powerful teacher. It doesn’t argue with the shape of the land. It enters the low places that are ready to receive it, gathers where gathering is needed, and continues moving when the way opens again. It nourishes roots hidden beneath the surface, softens what has grown hard, carries life through places that would otherwise become barren. Even stone eventually yields to its persistence.

And water also reminds us that every force of creation carries power. We have seen that power in the devastating floods that have touched communities around the world, where the same element that sustains life can overwhelm everything in its path. There are losses that can’t be made smaller by turning them too quickly into metaphor. We mourn what has been taken, tend what remains, and rebuild where we can.

Still, when I think about water, I return to its movement.

Water rarely remains what it was a moment before. Rain becomes river, river becomes ocean, ocean rises again into sky. It changes form and continues. It knows how to descend, how to rest, how to gather strength, and how to begin moving again.

There are seasons when life asks the same of us.

We may find ourselves carried into a place we never intended to enter, standing in unfamiliar terrain while the old path disappears beneath our feet. The mind wants solid ground, a map, some assurance of where the current is taking us. Water offers another wisdom: meet the shape of this moment, soften where softening is possible, and keep moving toward what is ready to receive you.

Blessing
May you trust the current that carries you.
May you allow what is ready to soften to soften.
May you remember that even in stillness, the waters of your life are moving toward the sea.
